VFX Production

The assignment

One campaign.
Multiple versions.

For GWM’s Haval H7 launch, I coordinated VFX production across the main commercial, campaign cutdowns and the director’s cut. The work combined automotive cleanup, sky adjustments, stabilization, compositing and motion graphics, with each version carrying its own shot requirements and review needs.

Production approach

01

Map the scope

I organized the work by film and shot, linking reference frames to task descriptions, artist assignments and review status. This kept cleanup, compositing and lettering requirements visible in one production plan.

02

Resolve dependencies

I identified missing shots and low-resolution sources, then separated work that could move forward from work requiring original footage. A visual checklist made the outstanding material requests specific and easy to follow.

03

Coordinate delivery

I coordinated artist handoffs, WIP reviews and revisions across the campaign versions, keeping shot requirements and feedback connected through final delivery.

The challenge

Different versions.
Shared dependencies.

The campaign combined several kinds of work: removing camera rigs and reflections from the vehicle, cleaning drone shadows and distracting objects, adjusting skies, stabilizing action and integrating dashboard graphics and lettering. The director’s cut introduced further requirements, including camping, climbing, slackline and wildlife shots.

Some references arrived as low-resolution renders, while an additional slackline shot was still needed. I documented those dependencies alongside frame references so the team could identify the exact footage required and continue with the material already available.

VFX scope

01 / VEHICLE

Automotive detail

The shot plan covered camera-rig and reflection removal, window and interior adjustments, wheel work, license-plate cleanup and dashboard replacements.

02 / ENVIRONMENT

Continuity outdoors

Sky replacement and brightening, tunnel and road cleanup, brand removal and stabilization supported continuity across driving and outdoor scenes.

03 / ADDITIONAL VERSIONS

Extend the story

The director’s-cut brief included an ocelot insertion, additional people in a camping shot, subtle fog, reframing and added movement. Lettering and product graphics were tracked across the campaign films.

Outcome

A CAMPAIGN DELIVERED.
SHOT BY SHOT.

The released Haval H7 campaign brings the car from the everyday into an outdoor adventure. My contribution was the production structure behind the VFX: organizing the scope, coordinating artists and reviews, and managing the material dependencies across the film versions.
